Switching from IR to ER...anyone?

Has anyone switched from IR to ER? How did that go for you, by chance? Any side effects or dosing changes needed?

Here's why I ask...
I was dx a long, long time ago and was put on Glucophage XR 1500mg (then Metformin ER once that was available) and BCP's, at some point moved to 2000mg. Things went well. Fast forward several years and I marry a military man, go off BCP's and am able to get pregnant easily (not a brag or meaning to be insensitive, just mentioning it because met regulates my cycles and ovulation very well), stayed on met throughout the entirety of both pregnancies--things were still good to go. Well military = moving frequently (and for us it seems we move more frequently than most) which also means changing doctors frequently.

Somewhere along the line I was switched from the ER to IR by one of the military doc's. I hate to admit it but even with the *terrible* gastro symptoms I had all.the.time I never put two and two together until just recently....YEARS after the change. I knew I was miserable but it never even occurred to me that a met change was the problem. I went back and looked at old medical records and found that I was on ER, looked at my current bottles and they were just the regular/IR. BAM. Went to my current doc, explained the situation and she put me back on ER with no problem. So, I went from 2000mg IR to 2000mg ER (which is what I was on years ago with no issue).

Gastro issues resolved immediately which has been AMAZING! But....I feel like I'm having issues with my eyes and it's freaking me out so damn bad. It's like I have to try harder to keep things in focus or things slip out of focus. Nothing gets so blurry that I can't see, so it's not super extreme but I feel like I now have eye strain because I have to actually try to keep things focused better. I waited for a little while to call her because 1. I also have anxiety which is in full swing lately because we're in the final days before a deployment. So I was thinking that my anxiety could have something to do with it. 2. I also have blepharitis/MGD which can make my vision go wonky at times if it flares up. My anxiety has never caused vision issues though, but I was thinking that since I'm aware that my vision seems off I'm now fixated on it which is making it worse because I'm so focused on it being off. I'm doing all I can for the blepharitis thing, really, but this feels different than a flare up of that anyway.

My (primary) doc mentioned that I might need to go down some in my dose because I've lost weight (down 35lbs), and I've also read that the max dose of ER (2000mg) is lower than the allowed max dose of IR. I put my call in to her to let her know I feel like my vision feels a little "off" but it was toward the end of the day so I likely won't hear anything until tomorrow.

I'm freaking out a little (which is what I do...thanks anxiety!) because I can't go back to regular met. I just can't. On the flip side if it's "as simple" as lowering the ER dose to ease up the eye side effect I'm worried 1000mg or 1500mg won't be enough and I'll start putting weight back on. I don't like change lol. And as far as I can tell I can't go off met. I immediately put weight back on as soon as I stop.

Sorry for the long, rambling, anxious post and if you made it this far, thank you. I've tried Googling and can't really find anything comparable to what's going on. Metformin dosing for PCOS doesn't seem to be based on weight or blood sugar levels because it's not for diabetes....

Is the vision thing a matter of getting used to it or does it mean the dose is too high?! Otherwise I have no other side effects from it which is a ridiculously welcome change from the IR days of gastro horror that I put up with for WAY too long.
