Doppler Use Question

I'm going to start out with tmi, but after a very vigorous night of sex, I had a decent amount of brown blood last night. I was 12w6d. I know that I had an SCH in the past, and they still saw some old blood last time I was there, so I'm hoping it was jostled enough to cone out and now I don't have any stagnant blood sitting in my uterus.

However, I was a little bit worried, so I decided to try out my fetal doppler for the first time. I hope some of you ladoes can tell me if what I heard and experienced was normal for doppler use.

I have the Sonoline B doppler. I meant to get the #2 probe, as I'm not thin and I know it goes deeper, but I got the 3. I figured I was far enough along that it should still work. It took about 15 minutes to find the spot. I measured my HB and my husband's for reference. On most areas of my abdomen, it was reading in the 120's, but it wasn't picking up a number consistantly and there wasn't the heartbeat sound. Could that have been the placenta/cord number? Or something else? Or just the machine prepping to work? When I finally got the HB, it started at like 130, but it sounded like a HB and the machine continuously monitored that beat. The longer I held it in that place, the higher it went until it reached 165. 165 is what I was hoping for! Does it always take a minute to build up to the right number? It seemed weird that it took a minute, but the HB sound always sounded fast, it's just that the number reading seemed to need a minute to catch up to the actual number of beats.

I hope that's how dopplers work, as I was relieved to hear a fast HB. Any insight?
