Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself as I'm newly diagnosed PCOS and I'm at a bit of a loss and extremely overwhelmed! I'm 26 and from Melbourne, Australia.
April 2015 I had a mass bleeding after SI and went to the ER. After 24 hours it seemed to calm down and they told me I may have PCOS.
I went to my GP and she ordered tests (thyroid, testosterone etc.)
All came back normal except I had high testosterone 1.9 (meant to be <1.8) and high calculated free testosterone 41 (meant to be 1-34). I got sent off for a transvaginal ultrasound. The results showed no abnormalities except a small (normal apparently) cyst on my right ovary.
My cycles have been irregular for the past 6 months before April 2015, and some bleeding even lasting months.
My GP said due to no cysts I most likely don't have PCOS and told me to lose weight (which I defiantly need to do, I had a 65 kg weight gain in 2 years!) and that it might help control my hormones.
October 2015 I went back to my GP for a follow up and another transvaginal ultrasound. My results showed the cyst on my right ovary had disappeared however now I have 15 follicles on my right ovary. I also had a small cyst on my left ovary.
She then diagnosed me with PCOS. I'm at a bit of a loss what to do now. I have an appointment with a gyno booked in, however it will be a 4-6 month wait because it's at a public hospital and not an emergency.
My GP told me if I get my weight under control most of my symptoms will most likely calm themselves. I wasn't told anything about insulin resistance or diabetes but my bsl (non fasting) was 5.3 she didn't say anything else.
My plan for the next 4-6 months is to cut down on dairy and soy. And try to eat a more balanced diet of fruit and veg. Maybe try natural herbs? I'm at a bit of a loss but I know my main focus is to lose weight and balance my hormones. I hoping that will make my cycle more regular.
I'm not on the pill or any other medications for PCOS only seritide for asthma and fluvoxamine malate.
I'm really just looking for support and help because I'm just so lost and confused right now! I also feel like this is my fault because I'm extremely obese (BMI over 40), I feel like if I wasn't so big I would have never been diagnosed.
