I have newly diagnosed PCOS, though I've had all of the symptoms since I was in my teens - extremely irregular periods (we're talking months between Aunt Flo's visits, and when she did visit, I could hardly get out of bed because of the pain and the bleeding was horribly heavy), intense acne, sporadic coarse hair growth on my face, difficulty losing weight, overly oily skin and hair, among others. I finally had someone talk some sense into me this summer to go get a work up done (originally thinking it could be hypothyroidism, though all the thyroid tests come back perfectly normal), and after blood test after blood test (my endocrinologist wanted to rule out Cushing's and other potential issues), and both a transvaginal and a transabdominal ultrasound, I finally received word that, though my blood tests were all normal, the ultrasounds showed lots of cysts, earning me the diagnosis. I have yet to schedule a follow-up appointment with my endocrinologist to get started on a treatment plan (just started a new job, so my insurance switched), but when she talked to my PCP, she said she'd likely start me on Metformin.
Anyway, that's my diagnosis in a nutshell.
