Hi a little backstory... I was diagnosed with PCOS on July 2015. For a year I did not have my period (2014-2015) What's strange is during this time, year of missing my period (and probably the start of PCOS) I was not experiencing hair loss, or excessive shedding. I was prescribed Mono Linyah, ortho cyclen, and it seems to be working fine. I also did a sonogram and I have small 7 cysts. But starting on August - Nov I'd brush my hair in the morning and find 20+ strands of hair fall out! I've realized a lot more hair falls out when I shampoo/condition. And then my hair started to become brittle, frizzy, dry... Now the top of my head is thinning, and my hair doesn't feel thick as before. I don't understand what's going on? I used to be 198 lbs, I lost 50 lbs by exercising every other day, cutting back on sugary foods, stopped snacking as before, and avoiding fast food / highly processed foods. I've been doing research online, I read about diffuse hair loss. I've also read about sudden weight loss can put stress on your body triggering hair loss, but that can't be right because I was losing weight slowly in a healthy way. I've read about lack of iron or other important vitamins, so I've started taking multi-vitamins. I've also read about having low testosterone in women can trigger hair loss... Would that be possible for me? Apparently losing weight balances out hormones, and I've been taking birth control to lower testosterone... I think my PCOS was caused by stress, as last year was extremely stressful for me, and my family do not have history of PCOS. So I'm lowering stress, losing weight, and birth control = less T which means hair loss? I have no idea. I'm trying to figure it out, sorry if I sound stupid. I'm going to an endocrinologist soon, hopefully he'll tell me what's going on. It just sounds so strange to me beginning of my pcos (before i even knew i had it) i wasn't experiencing hair loss, I just didn't have my period and had acne on my face and gained weight. Why now? Why would I lose hair if I'm receiving treatment and doing everything right?
