Hello there everyone,
I just have a quick question for you veterans of IVF.
My husband and I have been ttc for 10 years. We did clomid, and 3 IUI's in the past. All three IUI's were deemed unsuccessful, although the levels were a bit confusing and I was told they they were "too early to count" as miscarriages.
We finally went to South Africa in October to do our first IVF cycle. (we are Canadians living in Madagascar as expats so the hop to SA was easy). I do have PCOS, and endometriosis, and I don't ovulate. We did the egg retrieval on October 21st. We got 19 eggs, 15 were injected, and 13 fertilized. We were told that of those 13, 11 did very well. We did not use HCG to trigger the egg release as I was in danger of OHSS, so we used Lucrein, which lowers the chances of a pregnancy by about 5% as it causes some biochemical damage to the lining of the uterus.
On October 24th, 2 healthy embryos were transferred. I was told to test on day 10 (which seemed early to me). My BHCG level was 14, 10dpd5t. Though this was low, I was told that anything over 5 is considered a pregnancy. I did a second test on 12dpd5t, and my results are at 11. I'm in a bit of a panic. First of all I'm relying on local blood clinics in Madagascar so I'm not so sure about that. But I also know that a drop in levels aren't good. Especially when they start out that low.
I'm reading all over the place that people have numbers start low, then drop, the rise again; I'm also reading that a low number means the pregnancy is doomed; and even that people have consistently low numbers all through out their pregnancies but things turned out okay.
I am looking for advice, or someone that has experienced this before. We just don't know what to make of it at all.
Thanks for putting up with my panic! My husband is insistent that we stay positive, because it's so early, and I'm trying, but we've waited so long for this that I'm really struggling to stay calm.
